He comes out of his office, pulls up a chair. “Five weeks from today,” the filmmaker says, “the executives want to screen episode one, the full hour. If they don’t like what they see, they pull the plug. That’s what they say at least, who knows.” He takes off his glasses, rubs his eyes. “What I do know is, we’ve stalled out. Where’s Altman, Hassabis, Kurzweil? The series is incomplete without those voices.” He puts his glasses on. “What are you doing to nail down those interviews?”
“Making calls,” I say. “Sending emails.”
Torrey Paquette is a writer and documentary producer. His work has appeared in The Kenyon Review, The Drift, Bright Wall/Dark Room, Vox, and on PBS. He holds an M.A. from the Bread Loaf School of English. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Neha, and their two children.
